We are happy to post our first punk rock music related post. It's an interview with Danish skate/indie-core band Forever Unclean. The band is going on a tour in a few days and one of their stop is gonna be in Ajdovščina, our hometown. While packing, the guys took some time to answer a few of our questions.
Hey, how are you? Ready for the tour? All passports valid and packed? ;)
Yeah, we are as ready as we will ever be. Meaning that we have three songs on the set with unfinished lyrics, and the final practice last night turned out to be a night dedicated to tasting all the craft beer we brought home from our last trip to Slovenia, instead of actually working on a set list. As you are vaguely pointing out, we have a proud tradition in forgetting to bring passports and we don't feel like breaking traditions at the moment. We will only be traveling within EU on this one though, so our adventure will not include human trafficking as it did in the past.
If I’m right, all of you guys played in Stars Burned Stripes before. What happened to that band? Is “Forever Unclean” just a new name or a completely new band? Why the name “Forever Unclean”?
Well that tale is a bit complicated, so we will try and put it simple. SBS have gone through a ridiculous amount of lineup changes through the last 10 years. And when our founding lead guitarist Brian left last year, Lasse was the only original member in the band. Troels and Leo actually played in another band called Kill The Rooster, who was sharing practice space with Stars Burn Stripes. But when KTR split up, the two bands kinda merged together. Therefore we decided to change the name and start over with brand new songs that were not written 5 years ago by previous band members. Apparently, we are the last three people who still enjoy sitting in a van all day, smelling weeks old laundry and each other's farts, while trying to recover from a hangover, only to get ready for another night of massive beer intake and sleeping on floors. By the way, that last bit pretty much sums up our band name, which can be translated into the constant state we are all in on tour.
How would you describe your music? Any special influences? What are your lyrics about?
With a past in skatepunk and hardcore, we are obviously heavily influenced by the whole Epitaph/Fatwreck/KungFu/Drive-Thru era. But as we are also a lot into 90's emo rock, folk, indie, grunge, prog, stoner and sludge metal, we guess that our music is a mix of all of the above. It probably isn't though, but we would like to think that it is. We love playing super fast and we love playing slow and heavy. And we love a good catchy melody. The lyrics are mainly about serious issues like angst, broken friendships and sci-fi movies.
You’ve been on tour with Terrafraid last month and now you’re leaving again. Is it hard to find time for so many tour days? How was the tour with Terrafraid?
Having played and toured on a somewhat serious level for the last 10-or-so years, the rest of our lives are build up around the fact that we absolutely have to spend time on the road playing music, in order to exist in this world. Therefore it's not as hard to get time off to do so, as it is to actually write the music and book the tours. Our last tour with Terrafraid was one of the most enjoyable we have ever been on. Those guys are one of our favourite bands in the world - not to mention the fantastic individuals they are.
Are you looking forward to playing shows around Europe again? Is there any special gig on the tour are you the most excited about?
We are always looking forward to the next tour. Our previous times in Ajdovščina have been well fun, and it seems like your local scene is one of the strongest in all Europe! So that show is one of the highlights of this tour. Please don't let us down this time. We will also be going to some countries where none of us have played before (France and Spain), which we are very excited about.
You went on tour with Rebuke before, right? Stoked to travel and play with the guys again?
They are from one of the most modern countries in the world, so obviously we are indeed stoked about spending time with such superior human beings. The fact that they are also genuine lads and an awesome live band helps. Let's see, if we are equally stoked after 3 weeks of "who has the van keys", "what is the wifi password" and "the GPS died again".
Guys, thanks for your answers and the time!
