Interview: REBUKE

Lucky for us, guys from awesome Swedish melodic-hardcore band Rebuke also had some spare time (well, Petter did) while preparing for the tour, to answer a few of our questions. They are touring with previously interviewed Forever Unclean and coming to Ajdovščina this Saturday.

1. Hey, how are you? You’re going on a tour in a few days? All packed?
Hello. We are doing fine, thank you! We are indeed going on tour again, and we do have everything packed again! Olle forgot his towel. I double-checked everything twice so I think I got everything.

2. How would you describe your music? Any special influences?
Oh, I don’t know. We try to play fast, but keep attention to details. We’re semi-successful at it. Trying for the ”more is more” concept, limited only by our own incapability and never ever rehearsing. So all in all we’re proud of ourselves. When I write I am influenced by everything from fast, melodic punk rock to fast melodic metal. I guess it turns out kinda like a cheap version of what loads of bands did 20 years ago, but we like to claim that’s what we aim for, so. Yeah.

3. If I read correctly, it has been 12 years since your first demo, so there is a long road behind you. What was the band’s greatest success and what was the biggest failure? What is the thing that keeps you going?
That is correct. We had a few years in the beginning of not having a clue what we were doing, neither music-wise nor band-wise. We learned as we went along though. Nowadays we sometimes do full tours of playing shows every day. Back in the day we would drive from Sweden to south Hungary and get paid 30 euros. So yeah, now we drive considerably less for that amount. Because we’re a big deal now. Really though, I consider every show we’ve had a great success (even though some have been more fun than others) and the failures are secondary, mostly concerning practical crap like cars breaking down or going off mountainsides. We try not to focus on that. What keeps us going is how much fun this is.

4. So you are releasing a split with Money Left to Burn. Will we hear any of the new songs on this tour? What are your plans after the tour? New music, another tour, back to your jobs?
Money Left to Burn is one of the best bands in Europe, and/or the world, and this split is something we’re very proud of. I personally think this is Rebukes strongest material to date as well. We’re gonna play all our new songs on this tour, more or less accurately. We all have different things we do back home, but after this tour there will be a bunch of writing done, and there will be (hopefully) a full-length around the corner.

5. Last time you played in Ajdovščina Andy Dazzler played the drums. On this tour, Leo is going to play the drums. So you don’t have a permanent drummer?
No, we haven’t had a permanent drummer since 2008. We’ve played with drummers from lots of different great bands, like From the Tracks, Actionmen and Hold Hands. Andy has been the most consistent fill-in we’ve had, but this time circumstance had that it made more sense to ask Leo, who, as anyone can tell, is also a fucking beast behind a drum kit.

6. It’s not your first tour with guys from Forever Unclean. You must be very connected. Are you excited to share the van and play with them again?
We did our last tour with Stars Burn Stripes, who turned into Forever Unclean, but we were’t gonna do this tour with them to begin with - originally we were gonna tour with Money Left to Burn to promote our split CD. When they unfortunately had to pull out, and we found out Forever Unclean wanted to go out again, it was a no-brainer. Great guys, great musicians, great songs, and a killer time was had by all. Great success.

7. Last time you played here in Ajdovščina it was quite a rad party, excited to play here again?
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. If someone could just get me an endless supply of home made booze.

You can listen to some of their songs with this little player and check the rest of their music on their bandcamp site: click! As mentioned above and in our previous post, the band is touring with Forever Unclean. You can also check the dates and locations of their shows here: click! Both bands are awesome, so it would be your loss, if they are playing close to you and you don't go to their show.

Cheers! S&B
